LIVING BREAD

John Ch.6.
I. Illustration . John 6:1-14 (Feeding of 5,000)
1. The Time. = "the passover feast was nigh at hand".
2. The Followers = v.2.( Greek implies - They were
continually following, because of the miracles Jesus
was continually doing.)
3. The Need = v:5-7.
(A). Jesus challenges the disciples to meet the
need. "Whence shall we buy that we may eat,"
Philip = 200 pennies worth of need. (If you
think you can do it on your own, Christ will
let you.)
(B). Andrew "there is a lad here" v.8. (make use of
any one's gift no matter how insignificant it
may seem.)
(C). Jesus - "Jesus took the loaves" v.11.
- sufficient for the emergency.
- provision for all .
(gave things, distributed, all had as much
as they needed.)
4. The Response. v.14-15.
"This is that Prophet". v.14.
"would have made Him King". v.15
(People misinterpret the anointing.)
II. INTERPRETATION. v.15-21.
To show man's utter inadequacy in the face of an
emergency when left to his own resources.
To show that Jesus is present at the moment of our
need.
1. A conscious need.- "it was dark... the sea rose by
reason of the great wind." v.17-18.
2. A great discovery - "they saw Jesus walking on the
water." v.19.
3. A comforting message - "It is I, be not afraid." v.20.
4. An immediate result - Immediately the ship was at the
land wither they went." v.21. (faster than a speeding
bullet)
Jesus is King of the storm, Ruler of the wind and the
waves. No wonder they wanted to make Him their King.
III. INTERPRETATION. 22-71 (DISCOURSE ON THE BREAD OF LIFE.)
1. A seeking people. v.22-25. NOTE. v.25. "When camest
thou hither."
2. A speaking Jesus v.28. "do the WORK OF GOD." Note. Key
Labour Give.
3. A questioning people."What is the work of God."
(Jesus "I'm glad you asked that.")
4. Believing is the Requisite. "Simply believe on the
true Bread." v.29.
Note: v.30. Greater than Moses?. - "our fathers ate and
are dead"
Two Themes.
(a). The will of God is effected to man via the Son.
(B). That eternal life is the result of doing
His will.
5. INCREASED REVELATION. v. 41-59. Food and Drink. (only
those who partake of His nature , His holiness, will
have eternal life.
KEY v.56. application.
6. The Effect. Many murmured. v.61.
Many Backslid. v.66.
IV. DISCIPLES IN DERISION. v.66-71.
Why?
(A). they were more interested in natural gain (loaves)
(B). some are satisfied in a religion without
Commitment.
(C). Some saw the real cost (holiness of Heart) ..
NOTE: Peter's confession. v.68-69. "Who else has the
words of Life?"
